Terral constructing two new boats, first to feature Kort Nozzle

With an increase in business, the team at Terral RiverService, Inc. is in the process of building two 4,250 Horsepower, retractable wheelhouse vessels.

According to Terral’s COO Johnny Martin, both boats will be 140 feet long, 38 feet wide and 12 feet deep. The larger size of the boats will allow them to sleep a crew of 10 as opposed to the usual 6.

The Marguerite L. Terral (above), currently in operation, is about the size of the two new boats being constructed.

The boats will be the first in Terral’s fleet to feature Kort Nozzles, which are used to increase the  efficiency of the boats. They will run primarily on the lower Mississippi, Ohio and Tennessee Rivers.

Martin said both engine packages for the boats have been ordered, and components of each vessel are currently under construction. The first boat is expected to be completed in 2017.

“We’ve seen an increase in business – especially in our aggregates division,” Martin said. “We are building to meet those needs.”

The company is also in the process of completing a 2,000 Horsepower boat, expected to be in operation summer of 2016.
