High waters cause backups, delays

Terral RiverService, Inc. is having to work around severe flooding along the Mississippi River at several of their operating locations.

According to Terral’s COO Johnny Martin, the water levels they’re seeing now are the highest the company has seen since the record flood of 2011. Delivery and loading schedules for Terral and their customers have all been impacted.

“The flooding has caused a backup in our system and we are having to run reduced tow sizes,” he said.

Martin says the existing closings and delays are expected to remain anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks on the Red River, and possibly one month on the lower Mississippi River.

According to the National Weather Service River Forecast Center, Vicksburg is predicted to crest at 52.5 on January the 15th and Red River Landing to crest at 62.5 on the 18th. Alexandria is expected to crest at 30.3 on January the 6th.
